If the weather outside is frightful, you've done all the Ontario day trips and planned every Toronto staycation possible, we've got a list of the best things to do in Los Angeles that are sure to fulfill your California dreams.

To help you plan your future trip to L.A., we've recruited someone who knows Los Angeles best. Janet Zuccarini is the CEO and owner of Gusto 54 Restaurant Group, a judge for Food Network Canada's Top Chef Canada (check out Top Chef Canada host Eden Grinshpan's guide to Brooklyn) and splits her time between Toronto and Los Angeles. Basically, Zuccarini knows a thing or two about good food and where to get it in the City of Angels.

So pack your sunscreen and bring your appetite as we share Janet Zuccarini's favourite things to do in Los Angeles, her sunny home-away-from-home. From a bike ride along the Venice Beach boardwalk to Los Angeles's best restaurants — looks like the weather in L.A. isn't the only thing that's nice.

Bavel

"Located in the Arts District, Bavel is a staple in my regular restaurant rotation, and my absolute favourite Middle Eastern spot. Both fresh and comforting, Bavel’s menu combines West Coast produce with slow cooking techniques and aromatic spices. I love the roasted lamb neck shawarma and malawach, but the food is so good you’ll want to keep coming back.

You have to be willing to spend at Urasawa, but it’s beyond worth it. This two-Michelin star restaurant is the ultimate sushi experience and feels ultra luxurious. Chef Hiroyuki Urasawa is a master. Each course is carefully made with unparalleled precision and artistry. This is where I go for special occasions with my partner, Robbie Robertson.

In Silverlake, you’ll find one of my latest faves for outdoor dining. Desert plants and colourful seating provide a lively backdrop to the flavourful Mexican food cooked over a wood-fired grill. I love the mesquite-grilled pork chops, branzino and the carne asada tacos.

Bike Ride on the Venice Boardwalk

For most of the year, you can find me living in my home in Venice. A must-do when you visit this neighbourhood is renting a bike and riding down the boardwalk. Sunset is the best time, but there’s so much to see, no matter what time of day you go.

Hiking Los Liones Trail

While most people who come to L.A. for the first time hit up a trail with views of the Hollywood Sign, I much prefer the Los Liones Trail in Topanga State Park. It’s a lush trail through a canyon, and with a view of Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean, you can’t go wrong."
