The Marble Caves, also known as the Marble Cathedral or Capillas de Mármol, are a series of spellbinding caves located in General Carrera Lake in the Patagonia region of Chile.
Accessible only by boat, the caves’ otherworldly appearance is the result of the glacial lake’s waves slowly carving the rock walls over the course of thousands of years. The hue of the lake’s waters varies based on the water levels and time of year.
The water colour ranges from turquoise to deep cerulean blue, and these shifting shades are reflected up on the cave walls.
The best time to visit is between September and February, when the water takes on a beautiful blue-green hue. The cave’s appearance becomes particularly enchanting at sunrise and sunset.
