Zel Punta Cana: Why go
Amidst the artisanal lanterns, plush loungers and high-energy DJ sets — with a white wine in hand — it’s easy to feel like you’re at a chic beach club in southern Spain or Mykonos at Zel Punta Cana’s Neguri oceanside hotspot. It’s one example of how Zel does things differently from other luxury all-inclusives in the Dominican Republic.
It’s in its DNA: The 190-suite resort is a collaboration between Spanish hospitality giant Meliá Hotels International and tennis legend Rafael Nadal. The Mallorca native co-created the Zel brand to intentionally export the open-air, slow-paced philosophy of the Mediterranean lifestyle — one where vacation means relaxation. But, it also means movement: perfecting your backhand at the famed Rafa Nadal Tennis Center, hanging upside down at aerial yoga or swinging a club at a nearby golf course.
Zel Punta Cana: The suites
The sprawling accommodations — all hotel suites with living areas and whirlpools — continue the resort’s overall calming aesthetic of warm wood, neutrals and blue tones. Ranging in size from about 800 square feet to two-bedroom suites spanning 2150 square feet, their vibe is less cookie-cutter hotel room and more breezy Mallorca beach house — especially those with direct swim-up pool access.
Details like Mediterranean-blue tiling and cushions, woven chandeliers, clay accents and airy communal spaces round out the welcoming coastal aesthetic. Perks like Crosley record players and organic linens reflect Nadal’s golden touch. The suites are refreshingly quiet, much like the rest of the garden-filled property.

Zel Punta Cana: The amenities
While inviting, the suites are an after-thought for countless guests. They visit specifically for the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center across the street — one of only eight Rafa Nadal tennis facilities in the world. Here, racquet sport enthusiasts can train with professional coaches certified in the Rafa Nadal methodology on pristine high-performance courts.
A gym, yoga studio and running trails add to the resort's active lifestyle appeal. With its thatched-roof-covered hydrotherapy circuit and treatment rooms surrounded by reflective pools and wooden boardwalks, the full-service AUA Spa specializes in soothing sore muscles. Helping the vacation relaxation cause, two peaceful swimming pools wind through the resort’s greenery, and Zel’s picture-perfect stretch of Bávaro Beach sits a quick five-minute shuttle ride away.

Zel Punta Cana: The food
Zel Punta Cana scores points on the food front. Parda, the buffet, offers Mediterranean-inspired dishes alongside North American and Dominican staples, including a popular pizza station that’s nearly impossible to pass without grabbing a slice.
The poolside Tacorini blends Greek and Mexican flavours into comforting lunchtime go-tos like the chicken burritos, fresh fish tacos and feta-filled Greek salad. For lunch seaside, Neguri beach club serves things like burgers, seafood and cocktails.
For dinner, guests can opt for sushi, teriyaki dishes or teppanyaki at Nokyo, or premium cuts of meat or fresh seafood at Zel’s steakhouse, Volcán.

Zel Punta Cana: What else
While Zel keeps things tranquil and is definitely not a rowdy Spring Break hotel, you can still let loose with late-night cocktails at the Voltage bar. For a change of pace, guests get unlimited access to the nearby Fun Republic entertainment complex (think stylized mini-golf and obstacle treks) or tee times at The Cocotal Golf and Country Club down the road.
But there’s no shame if your idea of a vacation involves zero cardio; you can sit in the shade and join a culture workshop to paint local tiles and canvas tote bags. Either way, in a sea of predictable all-inclusives, Nadal’s slice of Mallorca in Punta Cana is a breath of fresh, salty air.
