Fans of Yayoi Kusama’s wildly popular Infinity Mirrors exhibition – and those still lamenting never managing to score tickets to experience it – will soon have another chance to enjoy the Japanese artist’s Instagrammable work. The Art Gallery of Ontario has announced it’s getting a permanent Infinity Mirror Room artwork.
The full Infinity Mirrors pop-up drew more than 165,000 visitors to the AGO last spring, prompting the gallery to purchase a piece of work by the artist. Bankrolled through a crowdfunding campaign as well as a donation from the David Yuile & Mary Elizabeth Hodgson Fund, the artwork will feature mirrored stainless steel orbs suspended from the ceiling and displayed on the ground.
The AGO will be the first art museum in Canada to exhibit a permanent Infinity Room. Called “Let’s Survive Forever,” the piece has never been displayed in Canada before and is set to arrive in Toronto this spring.
