Travelling makes the world a smaller, better place by connecting us to people, cultures and experiences we wouldn't otherwise have access to. But vacation glows aside, the consequences of air travel's impact on the environment is nothing to brag about.
Starting on March 1st, Delta Air Lines, one of the world's largest air carriers, will begin their 10 year commitment to mitigate all emissions.
"I’m a firm believer in the power of air travel to bring people together, increase understanding and generate social good across the world," wrote Ed Bastian, Delta’s CEO in a recent Linkedin post. "Travellers shouldn’t have to choose between flying and being good environmental stewards…This is a race for our planet, not a race to be No. 1.”
While it’s impossible for airlines not to use jet fuel, because, well, it fuels their jets. Delta will invest in clean air innovations, advance fuel efficiency and contribute to carbon removal programs like tree planting to offset the effects of their emissions. Now that's something we can get on board with.
