You know what sucks? Stairs. And sometimes, just like an ex, they can't be avoided. Take Japan for example, it's an incredible country filled with ancient history, culinary excellence and a ridiculous amount of stairs.

Many temples and shrines were erected in places to intentionally challenge visitors, but what if moving around a city is already a challenge? Access doesn’t just exist for everyone, it needs to be built.

In preparation for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Japan aims to make landmarks and activities as accessible as possible. Smooth ramps and flooring are being installed at sites across the country along with elevator access, tactile paving on streets, elevated train platforms, audio guides and wheel-chair accessible hotels and taxis.

These changes make a world of difference for those who want to experience more of the world.
