After a multi-year build and restoration, the long-awaited rebirth of The Claramount Club is here — and it’s been worth the wait. No expense has been spared by the owners, the Cleave family, in the build, design and furnishings of the complex on Picton Harbour, which will serve both local residents and visiting tourists. The club’s mantra is “Old Soul, New Era,” honouring The Claramount’s significant heritage in the community.

Set in the heart of The County, the retreat consists of hotel rooms and a rental house for larger groups, along with a state-of-the-art gym, a tennis court, meeting spaces and additional outdoor lounging terraces. Two restaurants each offer 160 seats, with patios overlooking the harbour, and there’s a highly respected bakery on the property.

Part of the beauty of the space is its dynamic collection of Canadian art, much of it by local artists. The Gallery is currently devoted to Gordon Harrison’s bold landscapes, while the Friends and Family Gallery showcases Judy Plomer’s bright botanical and landscape renderings. Descending the two-storey atrium staircase, guests are greeted by a stunning custom mural by local P.E.C. muralist Crissy Poitras.

Fitness Facilities

The gym is run and managed by respected local entrepreneurs — husband-and-wife team Adam and Danielle Reynolds of COACH HAUS. They offer private training and fitness classes, as well as regular gym access to the public and to residents. The gym overlooks large, beautifully furnished terraces, the tennis court and the harbour.

Epicurean Delights

PECish Bakery

Tucked beside the gym is a delightful spot to grab a coffee and enjoy a well-earned croissant or pastry from the best-named business in The County: PECish Bakery. This is the second outpost for PECish; their very successful first location is in the small town of Milford, about 20 minutes south of Picton. The charming owner, Matti Matyasfalvi, will be on-site at this location most of the time.

The Foundry

The first restaurant to open onsite, The Foundry, offers casual fare such as Mushroom Bruschetta, Steak Tartare, the requisite namesake burger and an extensive list of local beers and cocktails. It features two large terraces — one covered — and the main indoor dining room with a stage area for local musicians and a large U-shaped bar.

Delphine

The second restaurant, Delphine, overlooks Picton Harbour and offers a fine-dining experience. It is set to open in early spring next year.

Accommodations

The property offers 20 upscale hotel rooms of various shapes and sizes, some overlooking the harbour, as well as a beautifully restored century home for larger groups. The home consists of four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The restoration of The Taylor House will be featured on a new HGTV show premiering this spring — fittingly titled The County — starring local resident and designer Sarah Keenleyside.

The Claramount Club is slated to soft-open the week of November 24. A grand opening for the entire facility is planned for early December.
