Since we were kids watching Danny and Sandy in Grease, we've been completely obsessed with everything 1950s. From the poodle skirts and letter sweaters to the sideburns and silk scarves, we dig everything about fifties fashion. Throw in the cool cars, diners and drive-in movie theatres and we're pretty much ready to dive back in time half a century.

Of all the things we love about the 50s, though, the music has to be our favourite. Rockabilly, one of the earliest styles of rock and 'n' music, dates back to the 1950s in the Southern U.S., as an early combination of Western country with rhythm and blues (the term Rockabilly translates to a blend of rock 'n' roll and "hillbilly").

This Labour Day weekend, Brockville will be hosting a four-day non-stop music event in the 1000 Islands. The Red Hot and Blue Rockabilly runs from August 30 to September 2 and will feature 21 bands, including the Hell Bent Rockers, The Treblemen and She Demons. The Rockabilly boasts eight great "disc-jockeys" spinning all your favourite 50s tunes, as well as a rock 'n' roll dance party, retro fashion show, tiki party, plus a vintage market and antique car show. If you were born to handjive (baby), you can take part in a Jive Contest on Saturday.

Although tickets are required for the main events, all live band events at the parks are free from Friday to Sunday night, and you can bop and swing through the railway tunnel or around Blockhouse Island at no charge. The event culminates with a boat cruise presenting two surf bands and a wrap party at Court House Lodge. For a full event schedule head here.

And it's not just the Rockabilly event that's worth checking out in Brockville; The 1000 Islands is one of the most beautiful regions in Ontario. We recommend booking a hotel and staying overnight (or the whole weekend) so you have enough time to check out the islands, go fishing or diving, and pay a visit to the fairytale castles, museums and lighthouses that adorn the area.

Grab your leather jacket and your cat's eye sunglasses and get ready to rock (back) around the clock at a fun 50s fest that you won't forget.

Weekend pass tickets (there are only a few left!) and tickets to events can be bought here.
