November 1 marked the launch of a new pilot project that will allow physicians to prescribe visits to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts as an addition to conventional medical treatment. A partnership between the Montreal-based Médecins francophones du Canada and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the project will allow doctors in the association to issue up to 50 prescriptions covering admission to the museum for a family of four.

The program is touted as the first of its kind in the world and aims to help people with a range of physical and mental health issues, including eating disorders, Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy. The museum is already part of several clinical trails focused on the relationship between art and health.
